Hand painted Birkenstock by Studio Jean, commissioned by Calico Jack.
Initially, there was a temptation to stick to my usual recognizable shapes and figures, but I wanted to try something different this time. I focused on what I would actually want to wear. Recently, I discovered how well black and blue can complement each other when done correctly, and the black base of the selected Birkenstocks provided the perfect canvas to explore this combination. I also made some adjustments, such as changing the way the strap threads through the slits and dyeing the beads and cotton blue. These modifications give the Birkenstocks a slightly nomadic feel, and over time, I hope the piece evolves, developing a new character as it ages.
